7th Southern Africa Youth Forum
June 11, 20268th Southern Africa Youth Forum 2026: Empowering Youth to Drive Southern Africa’s Sustainable Future
The 8th Southern Africa Youth Forum (SAYoF) will convene in Johannesburg, South Africa, from 21–23 July 2026, bringing together young leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, development practitioners, academics, and civil society organisations from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Held under the theme, “Nourishing Futures: Enhancing Food Security and Water Resilience through Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Action for Youth Empowerment,” this year’s forum reflects the growing urgency of empowering young people to lead sustainable solutions to some of the region’s most pressing challenges.
As climate change continues to impact food production, water security, and economic stability across Southern Africa, the forum provides a timely platform for meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and innovation. It aims to inspire a new generation of leaders capable of transforming challenges into opportunities through knowledge sharing, entrepreneurship, and regional cooperation.
The 2026 edition will feature high-level discussions, interactive panel sessions, masterclasses, networking opportunities, and practical learning experiences designed to equip delegates with the skills and insights needed to contribute to sustainable development across the continent.
Among the key areas of focus will be sustainable agriculture, food systems transformation, water resilience, climate adaptation, regional trade, digital innovation, youth entrepreneurship, governance, health, and policy development. These conversations recognise that young people are not merely beneficiaries of development but essential partners in shaping Africa’s future.
Regional integration will also take centre stage as participants explore opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and other regional trade frameworks. Discussions will examine how youth-led enterprises can leverage these opportunities to expand markets, strengthen agricultural value chains, create employment, and stimulate inclusive economic growth throughout Southern Africa.
Digital transformation will feature prominently throughout the forum, with sessions exploring technology governance, digital rights, content creation, digital marketing, and the growing role of social media in advocacy and youth engagement. These conversations will empower young innovators and communicators with practical tools to influence public discourse and drive positive change within their communities.
The forum will also highlight the importance of leadership in promoting healthier, more resilient societies. Participants will engage in discussions around alternative livelihoods, public health, organisational capacity development, and inclusive leadership, reinforcing the need for collaborative solutions that improve the well-being of young people across the region.
Beyond the formal programme, SAYoF continues to foster cultural exchange and regional solidarity. Delegates will have the opportunity to build lasting relationships, share experiences, and celebrate the rich diversity of Southern Africa through networking and cultural activities that strengthen a shared vision for the continent’s future.
One of the forum’s most significant outcomes will be the adoption of the 8th Southern Africa Youth Declaration, a collective statement capturing the aspirations, recommendations, and commitments of young people from across the region. The declaration will serve as a guiding document for continued youth engagement in regional policy, sustainable development, and economic transformation.
The Southern Africa Youth Forum has grown into one of the region’s premier youth engagement platforms, creating meaningful opportunities for dialogue between young people and decision-makers. It continues to champion youth participation in governance, innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development while strengthening partnerships that extend beyond national borders.
As Southern Africa looks towards a more resilient and prosperous future, the 8th Southern Africa Youth Forum represents more than just a gathering—it is a call to action. It is an opportunity for young people to lead with purpose, collaborate across borders, and shape practical solutions that will nourish communities, strengthen economies, and build a sustainable future for generations to come.
