The Southern Africa Youth Forum (SAYoF-SADC) will be celebrating Young Frontline Health Workers and Volunteers #OurCovidIcons on 01 May 2020: Workers Day. This initiative is also coming under the Engagement pillar of the African Union Youth Division’s 1 Million By 2021 initiative.
Young Artists, Young Professionals, Young Politicians, Youth Activists, Youth Leaders, Students, Youth Entrepreneurs, Youth in Media, Stakeholders will also join in celebrating young people, who are taking the lead in fighting against Covid-19. The Southern Africa Youth Forum (SAYoF-SADC) is leading in mobilising people to salute our Young Frontline Health Workers and volunteers for their commitment to fight Covid-19 in Africa and across the Globe, from 01 May 2020 which is Worker’s Day and will dedicate 24 Hours to Salute them!
SAYoF-SADC is working with infuential young people in different sectors such as the Arts, Economic, Political, Environmental, Religious spheres and also Social Media Influencers among others to put out a word of honoring our heroines and heroes. These massages will be uploaded on 01 May 2020 (Workers Day) on Twitter, Facebook, on the SAYoF-SADC Website among other social media platforms using the Hashtags #SADCYOUTH and #OurCovidIcons.
You are also invited to join African Youth Organizations and fellow African Youth from various Countries who are already supporting this initiative to honor the great work being done by young people in Africa and across the world to fight the Coronavirus and these countries include Zimbabwe, Malawi, Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, Comoros, South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, Kenya, Ghana, Gambia, Eswatini among others.















The day and the campaign will also be used to call upon leaders and respective countries to give enough support to health workers in the face of the Coronavirus.

SAYoF-SADC is the Africa Focal Point in United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UNMGCY-Migration) and a member of the Africa Youth Front on Coronavirus (Covid-19), a high-level policy and advocacy framework set by the African Union (AU) for young people to co-lead Africa’s response to Covid-19. SAYoF-SADC is also leading work on: Youth Leadership and Governance, Transitional Justice and Peace Building, Climate Change and Environment, Business and Entrepreneurship, Disability, Effective Development Cooperation and Integration in the Region. SAYoF-SADC sits in the SADC-CNGO Regional Committee on Africa Charter for Democracy, Election and Governance (ACDEG) representing young people in the region
SAYoF-SADC is composed of youth organizations, young people and formations working in all SADC member states, taking advantage of their diversity and innovativeness to transform lives at regional and national level. SAYoF believes that, youth in the SADC Region should be stakeholders, stockholders and leaders not only beneficiaries of regional and state resources as indicated in the Youth Development Model (YDM). SAYoF believes real transformation is when young people are sustainably part of the development trajectory and are at the center of policies and instruments by SADC and its member states.
